Ames Power Sports L.C. was established in 1981 by current owners Bill Schwertley and Gary Swartz. They operated a motorcycle/snowmobile repair shop in Nevada, IA called S&S Cycle. Bill worked as the mechanic and Gary
ran the parts and sales. Donna Rasmusson joined them in 1984 as the part-time
bookkeeper. She became the sales manager in 1991. We three are the nucleus of our business. We have been very
fortunate to have an excellent staff join us along the way.
Our first franchise line was Yamaha snowmobiles in 1983. Next came Polaris snowmobiles. In 1985 the first 4-Wheelers were introduced and we picked up the Yamaha and Polaris ATV lines. In 1988, we had the opportunity to purchase
the land at our current location, 2312 E. Lincoln Way, Ames, IA, and Ames Power Sports L.C. was born. We acquired Arctic Cat snowmobiles with the move to Ames. We added Yamaha motorcycles in 1998, and Ski Doo snowmobiles in 2001 to complete our line-up.
Our service department is certified in all franchise lines, and also extremely
skilled in the performance aspects of our products. Our sales and parts staff have extensive powersports backgrounds, and continue to grow through sales training offered by the manufacturers, and attending dealer shows to keep informed on new products.
Our business was built on our reputation for excellent and courteous service to our customers. We have maintained that status over the past 20+ years through the referrals fom our great customer base!
